What’s new on Google Finance

Earnings season is one of the busiest times in the world of finance. There’s barely enough time to join an earnings call if you are combing through all the latest news and quarterly statements. It looks much better than the stock screener from Yahoo Finance, which is anything but intuitive. Even if it looks outdated, Yahoo Finance has more features and content, so its user base won’t migrate to Google Finance for the vivid charts and the clever integration of news headlines.

As Henry Blodget points out at Silicon Alley Insider, Yahoo! Finance has had real time quotes for a while now and the companies appear to be engaged in some minor squabbling about who’s real time quotes are more real time. That’s a secondary, albeit important, matter as far as we’re concerned. Of more general interest is the increasing availability of and user expectation for real time information on the web.
