You can make money online (or otherwise) by selling a product or a service. For product marketing, you can either sell your own product, or someone else’s product on a commission. The upside of selling your own product can be huge, but it has its challenges. You have to manage the whole supply chain (if it is a physical product) or the other technology aspects, if it is an electronic product. It becomes easier if it is a service that you offer.
If the above sounds daunting to you, you may chose to sell someone else’s products. This is called Affiliate marketing. There are online affiliate marketing portals (like click junction, click bank) who work as mediators between the publishers (you) and the merchants (seller). If you are starting new, this might be a good way to begin.
Once you have decided on a mode, the next step would be to identify what you want to sell. Chose a niche where the competition is low and upside is high. You can also opt to sell a commodity, at lower margins. In such a case, the volumes have to be high.
Chose a niche which appeals to you personally, which you have an active interest in. Else, soon, you may lose interest in your business.
Once you have identified the product(s) that you wish to offer for sale to your customers, you will need to set up the means to publicize it. The first thing you will need to do it is set up a website/information site/sale site/blog that will give information about the product and lead the prospect to buying the product. This may involve a simplistic shopping cart experiece and a mode of payment receiving. If you are using an affiliate channel, this is all done by the affiliate intermediate or the merchant for you.
