It s no ordinary entry-level camera and with incredible 7.2 megapixel resolution, 3X optical zoom lens, high ISO 1000 sensitivity for low-light shooting and Stamina battery power for up to 460 shots, the DSC-S650 Cyber-shot digital camera is perfect for any occasion. A bright 2.0″ LCD screen makes it easy to set up shots and check results. 24MB internal memory lets you shoot without a flash memory card or load optional Memory Stick Duo media in the built-in slot. Entry level just took a step up. More megapixels give you more detail and definition when you make big prints or crop in tight on your subject.Sony DSC S650 Digital Camera

This new model features blur-reduction technologies (ISO) and substantial internal memory (24MB) for shooting without a media card. Storage capacities can be expanded further with optional 4GB Memory Stick Duo ™ or Memory Stick PRO Duo™ flash media cards. High sensitivity mode is also available on the S650, which helps to reduce the chances of taking blurry photos, especially in low light situations. With settings up to ISO1000, you can shoot at higher shutter speeds to capture the candles on a birthday cake or the city lights without using a flash.

As with the S700, the S650 features a 3x optical zoom lens with Sony branding, an optical viewfinder, and a maximum sensitivity of ISO 1,000 equivalent. Auto and Programmed Auto exposure modes are offered, as well as seven scene modes (Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Landscape, Beach, Snow, High Sensitivity, Soft Snap).

One of the biggest attractions is likely to be ease of use. I like the fact Sony have added a control dial to the camera. This places a few extra features within easy reach and cuts down on the number of times you need to dip into the menu system. When you do need to access the menu you should find it easy enough to find your way around. It is simply a case of scrolling through the options until you find the one you are after. There is nothing hidden or difficult to get to.

The glare of the sun also causes the camera a problem. The shots were taken on a very sunny day, but there is still a level of detail lost that I think could be improved on. Colours are strong. This can be seen in the skies and with the darker green foliage in the outdoor shots. The test shot for colour shows the strength of the blue, but unfortunately areas that should be white have a blue tinge and areas that should be yellow have a green tinge as the blue mixes in.

The more advanced settings such as aperture size and shutter speed and controlled automatically by the camera, but you still have access to other controls such as white balance, ISO and exposure compensation. You can also connect the camera to a printer, television set and a compatible printer.
