Many people aiming to lose weight often wonder how to increase metabolism, so that they can lose weight at a faster rate. There are several steps you can take to do this.

EAT BREAKFAST.

Whilst we sleep our metabolism slows down and the only way to wake it up and speed it up again is to eat and this is the reason why breakfast is so important. Also eating breakfast has been shown to help decrease the chances of snacking and binging during the rest of the day.

EAT SMALL PORTIONS REGULARLY

Eat in small proportions. Did you know it takes about 15 minutes to get the signal that you’re eating to your stomach? That means that if you stuff your face, you’ll still feel hungry in that 15 minutes. Take bites every 2 or 3 minutes. Eating with company is a good way, because you’ll be talking more often (and obviously you shouldn’t eat while you talk). It really works. Doctors say it’s best to eat 4-6 small meals 2-3 hours apart. Avoid gaps of 5-6 hours when you’re not eating.

EAT MORE HEALTHY FOODS

Healthy foods such as vegetables, fruits and whole grains help to give you more energy but they also can increase the speed of your metabolism as well. Spicy foods are also a great way of speeding up your metabolism.

GET MORE EXERCISE

You don’t have to go nuts but being more active will help your metabolism to become more active. Exercise as simple as walking the dog or going to the shops will all have a positive effect. For a real boost try some strength training as this will increase your muscle mass and thus require a faster metabolism rate to give you energy, this is especially effective in the 24 hours after exercise.

KEEP A DIARY

Always keep a record of your attempts to lose weight. Note down your weight once a week and at roughly the same time, just before breakfast is recommended. Also write down what you eat each day as this is a good way of keeping an eye on what is working and what isn’t.

If you are looking for a diet that REALLY works and isn’t just another fad then I would highly recommend Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle.
